#December: Best places to visit in December in India

Do you want to spend the last month of the year cozying up in the bed? Well, it sounds fun too but imagine making memories of the lifetime and making sure that the passing year remains memorable! Isn't it more satisfying? So, here we have shortlisted few destinations for you which are ideal for the December holidays.

Auli, Uttarakhand

If you love winters and snow-laden mountains, Auli is the place to go. It is a coveted ski destination and is too chilled in December. The closest airport to Auli is Dehradun airport while the closest railway station is Rishikesh. Other must-see places near Auli are Tapovan, Badrinath, Joshi Math,

Leh, Ladakh

If you are a fan of Ice-Hockey, Ladakh is the place for you. The much talked about Pangong Lake is a treat for your eyes but standing for more than half hour when the temperature is -30 degree celsius is something daunting. There are many trek trails which you can visit at fairly cheap cost of Rs 10,000 but train yourself well as the trek tests you mental and physical fitness alike.

Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir

Srinagar is one of the most beautiful towns to visit in India during the month of December. All you see is frozen Dal Lake and the snow-clad roads, mountains, valleys and everything. However, the insurgency in the state can ruin your experience. So be prepared if you are thinking of a backpacking trip to Kashmir.

Nagoa Beach, Diu

Diu is known for its old fortress and Portuguese cathedral. There are some beautiful beaches in close proximity which make this destination worth visiting. Local transportation is available from Una. Diu has its own airport and is serviced by Air India and Jet Airways. Other attractions near Diu are St Paul's Church, Naida Caves, Street View etc.

Small Vagator, Goa

Goa is one of the best beach destination of India and a most preferred place for those who don't like to spend their holidays at a cold place. Vagator Beach is located in Bardez Taluka, in the northernmost corner. The air and railway connectivity are perfect and this place is an ideal hub for welcoming the new year.

Shimla & Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh

Shimla and Dalhousie are two very popular hill stations, especially for Delhites who love holidaying even on weekends. However, December will be little different for these areas as there is immense snow all around these stations which make the entire arena look beautiful and worth admiring. Take an overnight Volvo from Delhi and next morning you will get up in Shimla.

Dawki, Shillong

Shillong is again one of the best places for those people who hate winters and would like to explore a new place this December.  Being a capital city of Meghalaya, Shillong is well connected to other locations of India. Shillong Peak, Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Culture, Laitlum Canyons, Elephant Falls, Mawjymbuin Caves are some of the main attractions of Shillong.

Rann of Kutch, Gujarat

Who doesnt know about Salt pan land of Gujarat, the very famous Rann of Kutch. The temperature remains normal to low.  The closest city to Rann is Bhuj which is also known as Jaisalmer of Gujarat. December is also the time to attend Rann Utsav which will go on till Feb'2017.

There are many worth visiting monasteries in and around McLeodGanj. If not monasteries, you can visit their temples. One of them is Dalai Lama Temple Complex. If not spiritual, you will find many other reasons to pay your visit here.
